Originally, The Labrador Pact was about twice as long as it is now. There were sub-plots and sub-sub-plots which never made the final version. There was even a love story between Prince and a mongrel called Gypsy which was turning a bit too Lady and the Tramp for my liking, only with the gender roles reversed.
